Summer Soccer Leagues

The Coed Soccer League is open to all male and female adult soccer players or graduating high school students. The levels of players are mixed ranging from somewhat new to advanced level players. Although it is a semi-competitive soccer league, we emphasize the safety and fun aspects over competition. It is considered a platform for players to have fun, make friends, and exercise and overly aggressive plays should be avoided.

There are two adult women's soccer leagues: (1) the regular Women's Soccer League with players ranging from new players to players with high school or club soccer experiences; and (2) the Women's Recreational Soccer League with new or inexperienced players and 30 or older. Players with strong and extensive soccer experiences should consider joining the coed league. The Women's Recreational League is meant for new and/or inexperienced players or players enjoying slower paced and relaxed games. Skilled or fast and young players should sign up for the regular Women's League. Note that both women's soccer leagues will be on Thursdays.

The teams are formed by the league to balance the competition. At the registration, players can requests to be on a team with friends, we generally will try to honor them but not guaranteed.

FAQ

While the club does not prohibit playing in multiple leagues, the level of competition can be quite different. A player that would be comfortable in the recreational league may find the level of play too advanced in the co-ed competitive league. Likewise, a player that would be comfortable in the competitive co-ed league may find the level of play in the recreational league to be too basic or lack competition (the recreational league is non-competitive). That being said, some players adapt well to the various levels and styles of play in the different leagues and choose to play in multiple leagues.

No. There is a wide range of player skill levels and player experience in the club, from players who have never played before to players with collegiate experience. Because everyone signs up for the leagues as individuals, your skill level and playing experience do not matter. Before the season begins, the club does it’s best to create balanced teams based on the information you provide in your registration.

The games are played at the Kaufman Sports Complex off Hawley Street in Marquette, MI. You can find it on our map.

All games consist of two thirty minute halves with a five minute half-time break.

The club may organize pre-season practice and conditioning sessions. The league may also help teams to organize weekly practices in addition to games during the season. Whether or not there are practices is determined more by demand than a club policy.
For the competitive league, the club organizes pick-up games to provide practice and conditioning. See our facebook page for a current pick-up soccer schedule.

Each league has a slightly different policy regarding replacement players. The substitution policies of each year can be found in the game schedules page. Generally speaking, a missing player can be substituted for only by a player of equivalent skill and fitness levels. The maximum number of players that can be substituted for is also specified in the game schedules. If you are going to miss a few games please inform your team captain. See each league page for further details.

Players must be at least 17 years old and have completed high school (or equivalent).

Soccer shoes and shin-guards are strongly recommended. Some players choose to wear soccer cleats while other wear soccer "turf" shoes. Athletic shoes will suffice if you are either not comfortable with cleats or are a novice player and do not want to initially invest in soccer shoes. Do not wear baseball or football cleats. Team jerseys are provided. Jewelry is allowed as long as it does not create a safety concern (such as large earrings and loose bracelets - see the Prohibited Jewelry for examples).

Registration is completed online during the registration window. See the Home page for registration dates and links.

The club creates the teams to balance the various player levels. Since a primary goal of the club is for everyone to enjoy playing soccer, the club attempts to create teams that will be competitive in the league with no single team being dominant. Players can request to be on a team with specific players and every attempt will be made to accomodate such requests, but specific player requests are not guaranteed.

After you have registered online, you will receive an email when the teams have been organized (usually mid-May). You will be able check our website for your team assignment and the season schedule. You will want to show up on the day of your team's first game - see the Leagues page for exact dates. At the first game, you will receive your team jersey.

Games may be cancelled prior to kickoff at the discretion of the referee and/or league director. (When doubt, show up for your game!) In some instances, games may be cancelled in advance due to bad weather. In such a case, every attempt will be made to contact team captains via email to notify them of the cancellation. If a game is canceled due to the inclement weather, it will be played the following week at the same time and the rest of the schedule will be pushed back accordingly.

There is pick-up soccer throughout the year. Get in touch with us via email or our Facebook page to get the current schedule.
